KACE Appliance: Lessons Learned in Migrating from MySQL 4.1 to MySQL 5.1

KACE delivers Systems Management Software bundled in a ready to run appliance that includes MySQL as the underlying storage platform. As part of our 2008 hardware refresh, we upgraded the underlying software to FreeBSD 7.0-amd64 from FreeBSD 5.4-i386.

One of the major components involved migrating from MySQL 4.1-i386 to MySQL 5.1-amd64. David Kloba, VP, Strategic Engineering Initiatives, will discuss why KACE originally chose MySQL to power the KACE Appliance products and what challenges the engineering team faced and overcame in migrating to MySQL 5.1 in a freebsd/apache/mysql/php environment.
